Ammar 404: Tunisia’s Big Brother

Ammar 404: the expression Tunisian netizens used under the rule of Zine el Abidine Ben Ali, Tunisia’s former dictator, responsible for web filtering and censorship.

In Tunisia, Ammar is a male first name. 404 is derived from 404 Page Not Found, an HTTP standard response code.

451: the new 404?

Error 451 is a new HTTP error status code: “unavailable For Legal Reasons“.

Error 451 message is showen when a website has been blocked after a court order. This number reminds us Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, published in 1953.

451 degrees Fahrenheit… The temperature at which book-paper catches fire, and burns.
