Chanel N0. 5
Chanel N0. 5: first perfume launched by Gabrielle Coco Chanel.
The perfumer Ernest Beaux came up with samples numbered one to five and 20 to 24.
Coco Chanel picked number five. Gabrielle said: ‘It was what I was waiting for. A perfume like nothing else. A woman’s perfume, with the scent of a woman.’
Good Luck
In 1920, Gabrielle Chanel told Ernest Beaux: ‘I present my dress collections on the fifth of May, the 5th month of the year and so we will let this sample number five keep the name it has already, it will bring good luck’.
